I want nothing more than to curl up next to you, hold you close, and not even speak. 

Since that’s not possible, I’ll just curl up and die instead.

We used to talk every day…

We used to care about everything that was going on in each other’s lives.

If there was something wrong, we’d help each other get through it.

You were there for me.

I was there for you.

Now, we barely talk anymore.

I send you a message,

you don’t reply for days.

You send me one, 

I don’t know what to say.

What happened to us?

There once was a time when, if you were pregnant you didn’t tell anyone except immediate family and close friends.

You stayed home when you were really showing till you gave birth.

And teen pregnancy, out of marriage never happened.

And if it did, it was a shameful thing that you hid.

What’s happened to those times?

I’ve gotten good at deficit spending.

She’s not a girl like that.
Oh, she’s absolutely wonderful, and marvellous and beautiful.
And anyone can understand why,

If you have a crush on someone, you’re probably going to really like them.

If you really like them, you’re going to want to go out with them.

If you go out with them, and things go well and you last, you’ll fall in love with them.

If you fall in love with them, someday, you’re going to want to marry them.

If you marry them, then statistics show that you’re going to end up in a crappy marriage that lasts, or one that ends in divorce. And you may be stuck together if you have kids.

So I ask: what’s the point? Why bother? Why even try?

I hate to say this… but with my GPA possibly going down… I may have to give up ROTC. I can’t afford college any other way. I may have to just enlist, and hope the GI bill will allow me to go to the college of my choice… If not… I just hope to god I get a recommendation from my CO.

And just like that… I’m back at middle school. Back to being the last choice.
